National Probation Directorate Case Study
Client/industry sector
Instrom’s client is a high profile department of the Home Office, the National Probation
Directorate, responsible for all the Approved Premises throughout the UK.
Background
At the beginning of 2003 Instrom was approached and invited to tender for a large piece of
work that involved a security audit for 100 Approved Premises owned and/or managed by the
National Probation Directorate (NPD) throughout the UK.
Detail
As part of the continuous improvement process within the Approved Premises to test and
maintain the existing security infrastructure the NPD approached several experienced
consultancies to tender for this important piece of work. The requirement was to audit 100 of
the Approved Premises with a view to assessing the security processes and systems, with
regard to the safety of the staff, the residents and the general public.
Instrom was awarded the contract in August 2003 and had to complete all surveys and
reports by the end of December 2003 a tight deadline that Instrom was able to deliver. After
each survey Instrom produced a detailed report giving information on the current security
arrangements together with recommendations to improve where appropriate. The reports
were positively received by the NPD who have confirmed that all recommendations made by
Instrom have been implemented.
Conclusion
This prestigious project commenced in August 2003 and completed in December 2003 with
100 Approved Premises being surveyed. The NPD was so impressed with the work done by
Instrom that in July 2004 they invited Instrom to provide technical specifications for the CCTV,
intruder alarm and personal attack systems at each premise.
